"Silly Love Songs"

This single was released on April 1st, 1976.  The song was written and produced by Paul McCartney and recorded by Wings.  Paul wrote the song, Silly Love Songs, in response to critics who said his music was "lightweight".  Even John Lennon had made a comment about his ex-bandmate writing "silly love songs".

This song was Paul's first try at disco.  Disco was all the rage in the middle and late seventies and a number of sixties stars gave it a try, including the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart.

For Silly Love Songs Paul's bass guitar takes the forefront along with a strong disco beat laid down by drummer Joe English.  The song reached the number 2 spot on the British charts and the number 1 spot in Canada and The US.

The B-Side of the single was a song called Cook of the House.  This was a chance for Linda McCartney to take the lead vocal.  It's a charming song in it's own, but probably the weakest part of the album "Wings at the Speed of Sound".

Venus and Mars/Rock Show

Venus and Mars/ Rock Show was the last single released from the album Venus and Mars.  The single was released on November 1st, 1975.  The songs were the first two tracks on the album.  Many speculate that "Venus" and "Mars" refer to Paul and Linda McCartney....Paul denies that assertion.
Paul wrote Rock Show specifically for use as an opener on the forthcoming Wings tour.
The song mentions Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin Guitarist).

The B-Side of this single was Magneto and Titanium Man. The song was influenced by Marvel comic book characters.  Drawings of the characaters would show on a screen behind Wings when they perfromed this song live.

"Letting Go"

The song Letting Go was written by Paul McCartney for the Wings album Venus and Mars.  The song was released as a single in October of 1975. It was not hugely successful as a single.  It only reached #41 on the UK charts and #39 on the US charts.  Paul McCartney and Wings performed Letting Go and the B-side You gave me the Answer on their Wings Over America tour.  Both songs also appear in the concert film Rockshow.

You Gave Me the Answer was one of Paul's "music hall numbers".  He often introduced this song as a tribute to Fred Astaire.

Venus and Mars was released on May 27, 1975.  The album had been recorded in New Orleans and Los Angeles. Paul allowed other members of the group to be featured as lead vocalist on this record.  Denny Laine sang "Spirits of Ancient Egypt"and Jimmy McCulloch Sang "Medicine Jar".

When recording commenced in New Orleans the tension between drummer Geoff Britton and guitarist Jimmy McCulloch flared into open hostility.  Britton recorded just three songs for the new album and then called it quits.  The band quickly hired American drummer Joe English and continued recording in L.A.

Venus and Mars was the first album by any ex-Beatle not released by Apple Records.  This was Paul's first solo album to be released by Capitol Reocrds.  The album would be used as springboard for a huge world tour Wings was about to begin.

The Tracks List is as follows:

"Venus and Mars"
"Rock Show"
"Love in Song"
"You gave me the Answer"
"Magneto and Titanium Man"
"Letting Go"
"Venus and Mars Reprise"
"Spirits of Ancient Egypt"
"Medicine Jar"
"Call Me Back Again"
"Listen to What the Man Said"
"Treat her Gently/Lonely Old People"
"Crossroads Theme"

Overall I would rate this album very high.  There is an inetresting mix of songs and the album's production is quite good.  Geoff Emerick is one of the best engineers in the business and he recorded this album very well.  The sound is really amazing.
